First of all: I bought a BSA Gold Star 650 because I wanted one. Second, the only work carried out on this motorcycle was a Oxford Tracker at point of purchase and a few weeks later the dealer installed a rear tail tidy and light for the original owner. The original owner and I are still in touch and he watches these videos. - That said, there are some YT idiots out there telling misguided stories. I've always liked the idea of owning a BSA ever since I saw then first appear at Motorcycle Live. The management team seemed upbeat and interested in potential customers and the quality of the machines they planned to produce. I missed the initial release of the motorcycles and helped some owners achieve warranty as faults in build quality started to show. The headlight lenses cracking or falling out of the headlight bowl when stopping at junctions was one example. BSA would deny warranty, the dealer would charge the owner £175 for a 7" headlight... Right up until I started collating these across all social media channels and made a PDF to help owners show its a common issue, where upon BSA began to accept it as a issue, albeit quietly. Some time later, saw one online for sale, called the seller and bought it. The price was good and he really wanted it gone to make room for his new ride, his non BSA dealer for his new bike wouldn't P/X his Gold Star. I didn't make it far (200 miles) before it was pointed out to me my BSA was leaking fluids (I think I filmed it as I was doing a goodbye to Rykas video) and I noticed during counter steering it felt like the fuel injection was struggling, turns out the loom had stretched and then failed, as seen in previous videos. A 5 week wait to get into a BSA dealer and then days before my appointment it was cancelled as BSA couldn't supply the Health Check parts, so a two more week wait ensued. I make my videos, to document my BSA, its constant stalling (yes i've had the latest map), its a frustration that BSA allowed bikes like this to slip and quality control. After a long time waiting, I trailered the BSA into my local dealer, as if I turned the steering all power would cut out (as documented in previous videos), and trailered it back after the health check discovered the battery needed replacement in month 14 of its warranty. The electrical fault was incorrect installation of the loom at the headstock, which is one part of the recall for faults BSA were looking into on all their motorcycles. The repair at the time of filming was poor and I have resolved the work with the dealership since. Not that I expect any motorcycle to be perfect and fault free. The issues my BSA has are known, they exist on other Gold Stars and owners are ridiculed when they show faults with their motorcycles by other owners that are "trouble free". It's always the same story. You dare not talk about any issues online for fear of a mob descending on a post exclaiming "my BSA is perfect, never known any of them to have issues". I can not be alone in replacing the battery on my Gold Star so early on in its life. Pretty sure any other brand covers the batteries under the initial warranty period. Might have to get my multimeter out and search for a parasitic drain... One thing I am confident of is as each fault shows itself, I get it repaired to a high standard. The last thing I plan to address is the poor fuelling. Owners have swapped exhausts, added Fuel X emissions cheat devices and more to combat the cutting out issue. You'll hear the same excuse over and over again "it was tuned for the indian market". Then "Your dealer can add anew map" Stil owners complain of stalling. Its an under-fuelling issue and ill look to prove it in a later video as I have had my Gold Star on the dyno to show you how lean they run stock. I have a job in the real world so inconsistent uploads will happen. I just like to make motorcycle related videos, and it's great to share my experiences with other motorcycle enthusiasts.
