Paul Sunderland has generously given his time to talk to a group of adoptees and has allowed us to record and share the session for the benefit of others. He talks about the impact of infant adoption, how complex PTSD can manifest in adoptees, and how we can heal from this developmental trauma and move towards post-traumatic growth. The talk may also be helpful to anyone with early childhood trauma, as well as professionals in fields including adoption, social work and mental health. If you are affected by adoption or other early traumas, please know that while Paul’s words are hugely validating, there is a lot to process so you may wish to take your time and take care of yourself while absorbing it. *note on the talk: the ‘Ofsted requirement’ Paul speaks of in the video is no longer in place Paul Sunderland is an addictions psychotherapist, consultant and trainer with over 35 years of experience in the treatment of addictions. He is Executive Director of Outcome Consulting and Clinical Director of The Outcome Process. He has previously held the posts of Head of Treatment at Clouds House in the UK and Clinical Director at Crossroads Centre, Antigua. He has consulted in the set-up of treatment centres in Europe and America, is an expert in the treatment of process addictions and has a special interest in developmental trauma. Paul has spoken at TEDx and is a regular presenter at international conferences. Hosted by singer/songwriter Zara Phillips, adoptee rights campaigner and author of Somebody’s Daughter (2018), now a feature film starring Zara as herself, soon to be available on Amazon Prime. https://www.zaraphillips.net/ Adult Adoptee Movement was formed in the wake of a UK parliamentary inquiry into historic forced adoption.
