Edinburgh Waverley Station is located at the end of the East Coast Mainline and at the start of the lines towards: Carlisle, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and other stations throughout Fife The station is managed by Network Rail Edinburgh Waverley is served by multiple train operators, who operate both long and short distance trains, services are operated by: Avanti West Coast- who typically operate a up to two hourly service towards London Euston using the West Coast Mainline via Carlisle, Preston, Crewe, Birmingham and/or Nuneaton, services at the most recent time of filming were operated with Class 390 Electric Multiple Units with Class 220/221 Diesel Multiple Units also once being used on these services. Cross Country Trains- who run a few services a day towards Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee and in the other direction Birmingham, Bristol, Plymouth and Penzance, these services were operated at the time of filming with Class 220/221 Diesel Multiple Units. Transpennine Express, who operate a mainly two hourly service towards Manchester and occasionally Liverpool, both these travel via Carlisle and Preston, these services are operated with a mix of Class 802 Diesel Electric Multiple Units and Class 397 Electric Multiple Units. TPE operate services also towards Newcastle using Class 802 Diesel Electric Multiple Units. LUMO operate a few services towards London Kings Cross using Class 803 Diesel Electric Multiple units, LNER operate regular services towards: London Kings Cross, Central, with less regular services towards: Glasgow, Stirling, Aberdeen and Inverness. LNER services are operated with Class 800-803 Diesel Electric Multiple Units, these replaced the older Class 43 (125) High Speed Train and Class 91 (225) High Speed Train from Mid 2019 Scotrail, who are the main operator here at Edinburgh Waverly who operate both short and long distance services, towards destinations including: Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glenrothes with Thornton, Glasgow, Helensburgh, Stirling, Dunblane. North Berwick, Tweedbank and Dunbar. At the most recent time of filming a mix of different traction were used for these services: Class 385 EMU's are mainly used on services towards Glasgow, Stirling and Dunblane with Class 334 EMU's also operating towards Helensburgh via Glasgow. Class 380 EMU's are used on services also towards North Berwick and Dunbar, Class 158, 170 and Class 43 High Speed Trains operate all other services towards destinations including: Inverness, Aberdeen and Dundee and North Berwick. the above Scotrail services operate mainly between every 15-60 minutes frequency throughout the week.
