This is a basic movement of Shaolin Kung Fu, and appears in plenty of other styles too. This punch makes use of the twisting power generated from closing the hip when transitioning from Gong Bu on one side to another. Gong Bu is a very common stance in martial arts and can be seen in Karate as the stance Zenkutsu Dachi, and Taekwondo as Ap Kubi. These terms are often translated to Front Stance or Bow Stance, so called because the front leg is bent like a bow. Whilst each style varies in what is considered perfect form, the applications of the stance are generally pretty similar. Although I talk about this move in the context of Kung Fu, this punch and most importantly the principles and applications behind it, can be used in any martial arts style, not just Kung Fu, Karate and Taekwondo. In order to do this punch you will need to be familiar with both Gong Bu and Ma Bu, also known as Horse Stance. #KungFuGuide #GongBu #Punch
