My workhorse Dremel 3D20 printer started being weird (after 4 + years of constant use) and I started getting layer adhesion failures on some of my production parts. It started with one or two then it was ALL of them. I thought it might be a X/Y axis issue and I cleaned and lubricated all the rails, checked the belt tensions, the whole works. The issue got worse over a 1 week period. Must be the nozzle. I had a .4 brass nozzle on that was 3 years old and had seen 3500+ items printed. I had been getting more clogs lately, so it all made sense. As I started looking closer, there seemed to be filament leakage between the thermal tape and the Hot-End. Hmmm…. Talked to a guy who lives and breaths Dremel - he has 5 working away in a prototype printer farm in his attic. He said replace the hot-end, PTFE tube, and nozzle just to be sure. A silicone jacket instead of thermal tape was also recommended. I really try to listen to folks with more experience than me, so I bought the whole kit and dove right in after work one night. I downloaded the replacement instructions direct from Dremel and they are WOEFULLY inadequate (linked below). There are MANY missing steps. There are lots of nozzle change videos on YouTube - some REALLY good ones, but none detailing the whole hot-end swap. I go through what I found step-by-step in the video. Anyway, 1.5 hours, a bunch of tools, some cuss words, a little heat shrink and I was back up and printing. Problem solved! Some minor tweaking and bed leveling and I was back in production and the parts looked great. Job done for about 5% of the cost of a new printer, so it was extra worth it.
