In this episode, I'm headed up Route 66 to meet with the mayor of Holbrook, AZ—a small town with big history. Mayor Katheen Smith tells me all about the lawless, wild-west, gun-slinging past of the only town in Arizona that claims “famous murders” as an asset. We dive into the rich history of this small town over some messy, loaded hot dogs and fries like you've never tasted before at Studio 66 Cafe. Katrina Jaime started as a baker, but now she's serving up “a little bit of everything for everyone’s craving.” With her dad helping out in the kitchen, they've expanded the sweet shop into a full-stop restaurant. Despite its “outlaw” beginnings, Holbrook has grown into a welcoming, family-friendly community. Tourists visit from all over the world, but residents will tell you—it still feels like home. Travelers often stop for a great meal or to explore the nearby national parks. And if you’re staying the night, the iconic Wigwam Motel is a must. This cozy, family-owned landmark has been inviting guests to sleep in its signature wigwams for more than 75 years. Enjoy getting to know what makes this small town a treasure in Arizona.
