Daily Devotions: Weak Leadership - February 9, 2026

Exodus 32:1–2, 25 (ESV) “When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ‘Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ … And when Moses saw that the people had broken loose (for Aaron had let them break loose, to the derision of their enemies)… In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall teaches from Exodus 32 and highlights the difference between weak leadership and strong leadership. When Moses was delayed on the mountain, Aaron responded to pressure instead of holding to what God had said. By giving the people what they wanted, he allowed confusion and disorder to take over. The result was not only idolatry, but public shame as Israel became a source of ridicule to those watching from the outside. When Moses returned, strong leadership had to step in to restore order and deal with the consequences of compromise. This passage reminds us that leadership is not about pleasing people or avoiding conflict.
