Rig Veda (2.23) Chanting Vishwanatha Sharma Aatreya Music Label - Sony Music Entertainment Translation Ramesh Krishnakumar September 2023 This hymn in the Rigveda that is sometimes associated with Lord Ganesha, and it is commonly referred to as the "Ganesha Suktham" The "Ganesha Suktham" is a relatively late addition to the Vedic corpus and is not found in the main body of the Rigveda. This hymn praises Lord Ganesha and invokes his blessings. It is a significant and revered text in Hinduism and is often chanted or recited by devotees as part of their worship of Ganesha. Ganesha, also known as Ganapati or Vinayaka, is one of the most widely worshiped deities in Hinduism. He is known as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and beginnings. Ganesha is usually depicted with an elephant head and is revered as the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This hymn is also known as the "Brahmanaspati Sukta" or "Brihaspati Sukta," dedicated to Lord Brihaspati, who is the deity associated with prayer, wisdom, and rituals in Hinduism. Brihaspati is also considered the preceptor or guru of the gods in Hindu mythology. The iconic representation of Lord Ganesha with an elephant head and his distinct attributes and symbolism developed over time in Hindu scriptures, primarily in the Puranic literature and later traditions, rather than in the early Vedic texts like the Rigveda, But, this hymn is known also as the Ganesh Suktham since it speaks of beginnings and removal of hindrance of opulences with support of Lord Indra.
