Shamanic Poetry Series: Alternate History of the Universe

Welcome to the Shamanic poetry series I’m your host, Dr. DreamingBear. My grandmother used to say, "We are all shamans, we just haven't all remembered how to listen to the wind yet." For me, Poetry has always been a portal into the wordlessness that is represented in nature. All great traditions have an origin story beginning with the word itself, which was sent to have been made manifest, and hence to have become flesh which is us. There are moments in life which forever define who we will become, events which for all intents & purposes foreshadow our future. If we are aware we can learn to recognize them while they are in progress, otherwise we remain uninitiated. At the age of 16 my average Bear life was altered beyond comprehension when a serpent induced shamanic transmission occurred. While working on a ranch in the summer & upon discovering a coiled up Cottonmouth hibernating under a pile of fire wood, (my intrusion startled it,) & in alarm it latched venomous fangs into my hand! Upon being bitten, I felt the poison beginning to take its toll... & was rushed to the emergency room to receive a hypodermic dose of anti-venom to the butt-cheek; which burned like fire in my leg veins. I fell into a kind of semi-conscious lucid-waking-dream-state & felt compelled to write down what the snake's medicine was teaching me through this auspicious encounter. When I finally came back to my witts, to my scathe surprise the transmission was an 'alternate history of the universe' as told from the perspective of primeval powers of personification, & which like the serpent eating its own tail, tells the story of the cyclical nature of existence, the infinite causality loops & fractal features that begin with primordial Laughter echoing into the ears of Eternity.
