It was their second single to enter the UK top ten in the United Kingdom, peaking at number seven, eventually spending 79 weeks on the charts. The first thing to note about the guitars on the original recording of this song is that, like many of Oasis’s songs, the guitars blend to create a wall of sound. So, as a result, it can be pretty tricky to decipher who is playing which part. I have listened to the isolated guitar tracks of the original, watched numerous live performances and demonstrations played by Noel, to arrange a coherent cover that incorporates all the fundamental guitar elements across four separate takes. No.1, Noels' lead part, blended with rhythm parts where there is no lead. No.2, Noels' rhythm parts with no lead breaks. No. 3 Boneheads Rhythm No. 4 the Bass part. The lead guitar part in this take is excellent for practising the blues shift using the open E and A power chords. This riff is reminiscent is reminiscent of T Rex's “Get it On” and Peter Green's “Sandy Mary”, which were both inspired by Chuck Berrys “Little Queenie” and the Eddie Cochran song "C'mon Everybody”. See the link below for the demonstration and tab videos for “Sandy Mary”. There are some great-sounding embellishments over the chords that Noel plays, including 7th, sus2, and add11 chords. These create a jangly feel, very typical of Noel Gallagher's style at the time. The lead parts are very much pentatonic and are ideal for working on slides, bends, double stops and intermediate phrasing. 📩 Want a copy of this tab or a free trial lesson?
