An aerial video set to music, flying my sub-250 gm camera drone, while filming freight trains on the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway (CBNS) in beautiful central Nova Scotia on a summer day in early July. Our plan was to fly and film at one location and then get ahead of the train again to catch it at the next location. We started out in Truro, Nova Scotia and saw the Canadian National Railway CN 507 freight train, with mainly autorack rail cars, approaching an the then backing into the Truro railyard. See my video "Train Chase Through the Lovely Town of Truro, Nova Scotia and Beautiful Salmon River" • Train Chase Through the Lovely Town of Tru... We then took up a position East of the railyard on E. Prince Street and waited then filmed the CBNS 305 freight train approach and enter the yard. After that we took up a position near the West end of the yard and happened to catch the CN 507 mixed freight train heading West out of the yard and then checked on CBNS 507 which was still parked in the yard. We weren't certain when the train would be reconfigured train as CBNS 306 to head back East out of the Truro yard. We decided to try catching it at a location closer to Stellarton and proceeded to a location near the tracks on Grant 2 Rd., South of Hopewell, NS. After caughting it there, we we caught it again while dropping off its rail cars in Stellarton, NS. We were hoping it would reconfigure and continue on towards Havre Boucher, but it turned out this would too late for us to continue following. In the Stellarton area we happen to notice two CBNS locomotives pulling two propane tank cars. We followed this train up through New Glasgow to Trenton. It parked the two full propane cars on a siding and then picked up two empty cars at the propane facility by Power Plant Rd, Trenton NS. It reattached the two full tank cars and left these at the propane facility and took the to empty tank cars away. Time points in video: 00:05 CBNS 305 heading West toward the Truro yard. 00:56 CBNS 305 entering the Truro yard. 01:07 CN 507 heading West out of the Truro yard. 01:37 A good view of CBNS 305 stopped in the yard as CN 507 autoracks pass by. CN 515 is stopped there also. 02:04 CBNS 306 passing the rural Grant 2 Rd area heading towards Hopewell on the way to Stellarton. 02:59 CBNS 306 dropping off all its railcars in Stellarton. 03:48 Two CBNS locomotives at the Trenton propane facility replacing two empty tank cars with two full ones. Filmed with my DJI Mini 3 Pro, a sub-250 gm weight camera drone, on July 9, 2024. Edited with CyberLink PowerDirector 20. It is the call of the Common Loon (or Great Northern Diver), a bird that inhabits our lakes and I sometimes hear and see flying over our home.
