AB_A_1008 3D animation demonstrating the prepping and initial steps involved in a laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure. First a small incision is made and a trocar is inserted thorough the umbilicus. The abdomen is then insufflated by forcing CO2 gas into the abdominal cavity to gain access to the gallbladder. Three additional trocars for the laparoscopic tools are inserted into the insufflated abdomen to obtain a clear view of the liver, gallbladder and transverse colon. As a laparoscopic tool is used to grasp the transverse colon and mobilize it laterally, a crush injury occurs on the bowel and leads to a future perforation.
