Hi guys! I’m completely obsessed with black cakes especially black wedding cakes! When I was hired to make a black wedding cake with geode I was so excited!! This is a black buttercream 2 tier cake that I carved the space for geode. You’ll notice I put white buttercream inside instead of black. That’s so that the clear candy will have a brighter background. If black buttercream was used, the geode would be completely dark and you wouldn’t see the color I used. Cake is smoothed with smooth cake comb from www.estercakes.com The color paint I made for the geode was not the shade I wanted so I brightened it up and added a pretty shimmer to it with Poppy Paints cake shimmer. My tips on making black buttercream: I do add a lot of black gel food coloring but I do start with a chocolate buttercream. That helps. And once I add the black, I mix it real good and let it sit in an airtight container in the fridge for a week. It really helps the black color to deepen.
