Developed and published by Cosine Systems in 2020 Download the Game @ https://csdb.dk/release/?id=198231 Finally released a few days ago, Chiller 2 is a fan-made follow-up to the 1984 Mastertronic game, Chiller. The original earned itself notoriety by using a thinly-veiled musical tribute to Michael Jackson's smash-hit track, Thriller, which meant the game was eventually pulled and replaced with an updated version, containing less copyright-infringing music. As for the game itself, it was a brutally hard platformer, forcing players to brave the terrors of the night, collecting crosses and staying out of the way ghouls, ghosts, not to mention a plethora of poisonous toadstools. Not satisfied with including a controversial choice of music, Chiller couldn't be finished, thanks to a cross that was positioned in a place that couldn't be reached; not exactly David and Richard Darling's finest hour. Given all its problems, you'd think most people would want to forget about the game, but Andy Vaisey decided there was life in the old corpse yet, bringing the game back in this spiritual sequel. It's similar in that you must collect golden crucifixes while avoiding zombies and ghosts, but it's much better executed that the original, as well being much easier. What's impressive is the entire game - code, graphics and music - is all Andy's work. Chiller 2 is easy on the eye and plays pretty well too, featuring 12 levels to work through, as well as two different playable characters. I especially liked the way moving backwards causes your character to moonwalk across the screen, a nice little nod to the Jackson heritage of the original. Overall, Chiller 2 is a fun game, although perhaps a tad too easy. The collision detection is designed so that you only start to lose health when touching an enemy or environmental hazard for a couple of seconds, but keeping on the move and jumping around means you take very little damage, unless you screw up badly. This doesn't detract from the fun, however; Chiller 2 is a fun little title C64 fans will wan to sink their fangs into.
