In his talk, Dr. William Falcao talks about engaging with youth by asking questions instead of giving orders. Doing so encourages youth to think critically and reflect about their own lived experiences educating them to make better decisions and ultimately lead better lives. This talk was filmed and edited by TVM, Student Television at McGill. Dr. William Falcao is an Assistant Professor at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University. His work focuses on broad aspects of youth development through sport. Native from Brazil, Dr. Falcao has witnessed first-hand the consequences of social-economic disparity and the lack of positive role models in youth lives. As an avid sports practitioner, he also realized the motivating nature of sport becoming, thus, an advocate for sport for personal and social development. His studies in psychology, sport sciences, and management led him to collaborate with sports organizations and coaches in developing, disseminating, and evaluating strategies that promote development through sport, especially among youth in underserved communities. In particular, he has developed innovative coaching approaches, created and delivered coach training protocols, and led evaluation programs assessing the impact of sports on communities, coaches' behaviours, and youth development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
