"Faith, Family, Friends", "Hope' Harmony, Home", "Live, Laugh, Love" These virtues are a true testament to the way in which Daniel P. Barrett lived his life. Dan was born on March 27, 1960 in Cornwall, NY. He was the son of Maree and the late John A. Barrett Sr. Dan moved to Claverack, NY with his family in 1967. He graduated from Hudson High School and attended college at Columbia Greene Community College and Siena College. Dan was employed as the Business Manager of the Hudson City School District since 1985 and was considered the "school historian" as a result of his many years of devoted service to the district, its staff and students. Dan was also an active parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Hudson where he and his family attended mass regularly. Dan's strong personal faith and belief in God was the core of his life which extended to all those that he loved so much. Dan was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing ice hockey and football when he was young on teams including the Hudson High Blue Hawks and the Tri County Vikings football teams. He and Cathy enjoyed many years watching and traveling with their four sons' as they played ice hockey throughout New England for over a 27-year span of time. He and his son's made annual trips to watch the NY Rangers and the NY Giants-memories that will live in their hearts forever. Dan and his wife Cathy realized the importance of playing an active role in the lives of their children as the true essence of the meaning of "family". Dan was an active member of the A.B. Shaw Fire Company, the Town of Claverack Board of Assessment Review, the Columbia County Selective Service Committee and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his mother Maree Barrett Kirwan of Claverack, his wife Catherine, sons Jason, and his wife Kelly of White Plains, NY,, Daniel Jr., Stephen and Ryan . He is also survived by his brothers John Barrett Jr. of Warren Ct. and Thomas Barrett of Glen Allen, VA., and his sisters Maree (Penny) Spampinato of Copake, NY, Ruthanne Schaufler of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth (Betsy) Cullen of Hudson, NY, and Kathleen (Kate) Jornov of Allentown Pa.. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and life-long friends.. Calling hours will be held at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home in Hudson NY on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Church, Hudson, NY at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Internment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the A,B, Shaw Fire Company, Claverack, NY.
