Alley Cat (c) Synapse Software 1983 for the Atari 8 bit line of computers A very nice looking game, with a fun premise - the player is put into shoes, sorry, paws of Freddy the Cat, who's the king of the alley, trying to impress the dam, Felicia. However, there are many hazards - the angry dog Bowser the Spike chasing Freddy at every opportunity, Fletcher the Cat living in the cans, sometimes throwing Freddy of their tops and Hick, Dick and Doc, the three mice who have fun pulling the clothespins, thus dumpipng Freddy to the ground.. And that's just the outside of the Catalina Condominium Complex. I had this game as a kid, and played it quite often, despite never beating it. For some reason, this game was fun, despite the lack of success. Maybe because it's just a good game? I do think so. Today, just to show some variety of rooms to explore in the game, I resorted to using a cheated version (unlimited cats, a.k.a. infinite lives), and on a few ocassions, to disabling the collisions (to avoid the Mad Housekeeping Broom and also, to be able to get to Felicia). Yes, this game is fun, but also quite hard, even on KITTEN level (which is the easiest one). Anyway, it's a wonderful game, which still holds its charm.
