What is it with Baked Beans on toast? Why do British people like toast? If I try to make my own baked beans from scratch, what would they be like? One or more of these questions will be answered today! This is a collaboration with my friend Babatunde from Nigeria - his Beans on Toast video is here: • Beans on Toast (Nigerian Style) - Col... - please support his channel. Ingredients for these beans: 2 cups beans, soaked and boiled until just softening (haricot, cannelini, pinto, black-eye, etc) 200g smoked bacon 1 large onion 6 cloves garlic 100g tomato puree 2 tablespoons sweet paprika 500ml mild ale or porter (or you could actually use a non alcoholic malt drink or cola or dr pepper!) 1 red pepper, fire roasted (you can but this in jars ready roasted) 300-400g butternut squash, grated 5 bird chillies (or more, or less, or different chillies, to taste) Fresh or dried herbs - I used Sage, thyme, savory, fennel seeds passata (I used 690g jar - about that much, or chopped tinned tomatoes) 3 tablespoons honey 3 tablespoons soft brown sugar water if required salt to taste
