A discussion on the dangers of mixing drugs with alcohol and whether cannabis use adversely affects behavior. Detective Inspector Denis Mullins highlights the dangers young people face when mixing alcohol with prescription drugs, Youngsters are mad to use some tablet or other with the drink. He believes 18-year-olds are mixing alcohol such as Guinness or cider with barbiturates originally prescribed for their parents. A lot of youngsters do not know that this is a fatal mixture. Film producer Morgan O’Sullivan wonders if An Garda Síochána is getting enough support from schools in terms of educating young people about drugs. English author Frederick Forsyth has come across drug use in the Middle East and believes it suppresses motivation. He states Christendom permits alcohol but no access to soporific drugs. He goes on to explain how Christendom has ended up, Ruling through one empire or another all the people who were on opium in the Far East, cocaine in South America, and hash in the Middle East. Quoting scientific research, audience member Ian Wilson is adamant there is no proof smoking marijuana causes a lack of motivation. Australian actor Rod Taylor refutes this point, Millions of unhappy and bewildered parents would contest that fact buddy. For psychiatrist Dr Brian O’Shea, cannabis is a minor drug of abuse. It is not as harmful as opiates or barbiturates but he is clear, If I wanted to get on in life, I wouldn’t smoke cannabis, if I wanted to get on in life I wouldn’t become an alcoholic.
