What could be more fun than…TOC@CIT (Teaching Organic Chemistry at Caltech)? Professor of Chemistry Brian Stoltz is the 2017 recipient of the Richard P. Feynman Prize for Excellence in Teaching. This prize honors a professor who demonstrates, in the broadest sense, an unusual ability, creativity, and innovation in undergraduate and graduate classroom or laboratory teaching. Nominated by undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni, and fellow faculty members, Professor Stoltz is known for his dedication and passion for teaching organic chemistry as well as his commitment to diversity and an individually tailored approach to mentorship. In his Feynman Prize seminar, Professor Stoltz will be highlighting some of the joys and challenges of teaching organic chemistry both in the classroom and in the laboratory at Caltech. His lecture will draw upon his own instructors and teachers as role models and focus on students and stories from his experiences since arriving at Caltech in the summer of 2000. The aspirational goal of his seminar is to inspire and assist others in teaching their own subjects to a wide range of students.
