On July 15th, the first annual Summer TrainFest was held at Los Angeles Union Station. Sponsored by LA Metro, Metrolink, and Amtrak, the event was attended by many from far and wide who stood in long lines, eager to take a look at the various rail equipment and exhibitors on display that afternoon. On display at the event were several private rail cars including the Tioga Pass, Overland Trail, Pacific Trail, and the National Forum. Amtrak Superliner cars were also open for display, as well as Metrolink's "Smarty" Bombardier Car. Metrolink brought a brand new EMD F125 Tier 4 locomotive for visual observation and viewing. The grand centerpiece of the event, was Baldwin 4-8-4 Steamer Santa Fe #3751. Amtrak #3 is also seen pulling into LA Union Station, running around 7 hours late with P40DC #822. Towards the end of the event, I headed over to the Cesar Chavez bridge to see the display trains head back to their respective yards. Santa Fe #3751 was the first to head back, followed by the Metrolink F125 and Smarty car heading to CMF. Amtrak's Genset #591 also made a rare appearance, pulling back their display train to the 8th street yard. Thanks for watching!! Video and Content © 2017 MichaelLovesTrains
