In this video entitled "15 stop filters DO WE NEED THEM?" I discuss whether it's worth buying a super stopper or not! I bought a Lee Super stopper 18 months ago and I very rarely use it. It cost me just shy of £100. Whilst that isn't a huge amount of money I hate buying gear I rarely use, I'm sure most of you guys are like me too? The first question is why?... Well, I like using my 10 stop filter a lot. Some say I use it a bit too much but each to their own! I just like the effect of being able to create very long exposure of moving objects. Mostly water of course. I love the "Ice skating rink" (as I call it) effect whilst shooting seascapes. Sometimes my 10 stop filter just doesn't offer me long enough exposure times especially during very bright days. Hence the reason I felt the need to buy a 15-stop filter. A lot of photographers buy 15 stop filters so they can achieve really, really long exposure times. 15 or 20 minutes and even longer. For me though the reason why I bought a 15 Stop Filter was to simply shoot 2 to 4-minute exposures during the day and only to use it when my 10 stop filter just wasn't strong enough. I bought the Lee Super Stopper just because I use Lee filters.
