The new bill gives $500 billion to major industries across America. As Congress deliberated the bill, their phones rang off the hook and their inboxes were flooded with emails from lobbyists. Some politicians even got personal calls from CEOs of major companies. From the candy industry to alcohol beverage producers, sneaker companies, and more, every industry wanted a piece of the stimulus pie. Aggressive lobbying came from groups directly impacted by the crisis, like the restaurant and airline industries, as well as industries trying to sneak in unrelated policies.. All of this points to the desperate need for tougher lobbying restrictions and strong anti-corruption laws to protect the American people, so that special interests can’t use a national emergency to push their own agendas.
