I take some time to demonstrate what you can do with a Boss DD3 digital delay. For the nerds: It's a blue label, japanese edition (not sure of the year, don't care). These are not the standard sounds like the "Edge" sound or some others you see quite often. These are just some sounds I found by messing around with the delay that I haven't heard before. In the first part I take a short delay with fairly high feedback to create a trashy reverb sound. It works quite well but beware of feedback or bass booms while you're recording. The setting on the speed switch is on the shortest setting. The second sound is meant to emulate a short bass loop with the hold function on the pedal. You can play any kind of pattern you manage to cram in that short time passage after you find the octave of your desired tempo. Octave of your desired tempo = first set a tempo you like to play over, play a note then speed up the delay time until you hit the octave of that note. After that, you drop it back to the original tempo. That's it. The metallic overtones are produced because of very short d. time and high feedback and the delay starts to go into self oscillation. It's reminiscent of some playable ring mod sounds. The glitchy riff effect is hard to achieve at first, but after some practice it's possible to get it right. The key is to play in one scale to sound musical. I mean, you can play any assortment of notes you wish. Be creative and have fun. The more delay time you set, the more notes you can play in a sequence. Don't expect to get a repeatable result! I hope you enjoyed the demonstration. I have more sounds and I'll show them later.
