Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the commencement of Canada’s largest infrastructure project “ever”. The Canadian government announced a high-speed rail line connecting Toronto to Quebec City. The line will include intermediate stops, including Peterborough, Ottawa, Montreal, Laval and Trois-Rivieres. The project will cost $3.9 billion and aims to create over 41,000 jobs, improve productivity and boost Canada’s GDP. Prime Minister Trudeau said the high-speed rail project will be a “game-changer” for Canadians. “Slashing travel times by half, getting you from Toronto to Montreal in three hours, it will stimulate our economy, strengthen bonds between cities and our two most populist provinces and reduce costs for businesses while improving their productivity and competitiveness,” Mr Trudeau said. The project is facing significant backlash online, with many blasting the Canadian Prime Minister for making the announcement following his resignation.
