Hello Friends, In this video, I have made the concept of simple sentences, compound Sentences, and Complex sentences clear in Bengali. Simple, Compound, Complex Sentences are divided into dependent clauses and independent clauses. What is a dependent clause? A dependent clause is a that-clause that cannot express a complete meaning. It cannot stand alone in a sentence. Examples: 1. When the president arrives. 2. If you can work on Sundays. What is an Independent clause? An Independent clause is a that-clause that expresses a complete meaning. It alone can stand as a sentence. Examples: 1. When the president arrives the flag will be hoisted. 2. If you can work on Sundays you will be paid more. Clauses can be divided into 3 types: 1. Noun Clause A noun clause is a dependent clause that acts as a noun. Noun clause begins with words such as: how, that, what, whatever, when, where, whether, which, whichever, who, whoever, whom, whomever, why. Examples: 1. What she says is quite true. 2. I don't know when she will return. 3. I do not believe in what she says. 4. The report that he was killed is untrue. 2. Adjective Clause An adjective clause is a dependent clause that like an adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun. An adjective clause begins with words such as that, when, where, who, whom, whose, which, why. Examples: 1. This is the book which I found. 2. The boy who stole your book has been caught. 3. Adverb Clause An adverb clause is a group of words that functions as an adverb in a sentence. The clause can modify and describe verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. Adverb clause tells us about: when, where, why, how, how much or under what condition the action in the sentence takes place. Examples: 1. Do not talk while you are eating. 2. They worked hard that they might become rich. Types of sentence 1. Simple Sentence - Independent Clause Example : Being tired he went to bed. 2. Compound Sentence - Independent Clause + Independent Clause Example : He was tired. He went to bed. 3. Complex Sentence - Independent clause + Dependent clause.
