Killdeer are sensitive patients - but their vulnerable chicks are even more fragile, unable to survive alone. This little one had been found in a park, struggling to walk, peeping for her mother who was nowhere in sight. She was terrified, too young to fly… and weakening fast. A kind passerby named Usman sought help for her just in time. She reached safety at Toronto Wildlife Centre, but was weak, dehydrated, barely moving, and squinting. Carly, a wildlife rehabilitator, gently gave her fluids and a supplement, then settled her into a warm incubator to rest. When the baby still wasn’t eating on her own, Carly gently tube-fed her specialized formula to give her strength. Meanwhile, TWC Volunteer Ann, who monitors killdeer nests, had spotted a family with newly hatched chicks. Days later, when the orphan was strong enough, Ann introduced her to the new family. The mother killdeer ran straight to the baby, sheltering her and her four new siblings from the rain! Enjoyed this video?
