Seagull 1963 Review This is the remake of the “Project 304” Chinese Airforce Watch. Ok so Dimensions Diameter: 37.4mm although I’ve seen some blogs state it as 38mm. I measured from the 4:30 to the 10:30 positions, avoiding pushers etc. Lug Width: 18mm Height: 13.3mm or with the NATO 15.8mm Lug to Lug 47.2mm The movement is a seagull ST19 based on the swiss made venus 175. In the 60’s Venus sold the 175 parts to the manufacturer of the Chinese Airforce Watches. Its got a 21 jewel handwinding movement, 45 Hour Power reserve, beats at 21,600 bph and has 30 metres of Water Resistance. This is what they call a Column Wheel Chronograph. The watch is cool, the case is quite rudimentary, polished on all sides, no bevelling and reminiscent of vintage chronographs from the 50’s and 60’s, one of which I have here. Its very well proportioned and its dimensions reiterate that vintage vibe. It has a champagne dial with a mixture of Arabic numerals and arrow shaped applied indices. The blued minute and subdial hands, in tandem with the red chronograph hand really pop against the dial and make for a very cohesive piece. The watch comes with both acrylic and sapphire dials and can be bought every day of the week for less than EURO300.
