Jake Jacas was a real unusual rarity at Motown. He was just about their only signing who was British and a black singer. He was managed by Kim Revie, daughter of football legend Don Revie. She managed him and ended up marrying him. Billy Griffin produced an entire album with me for him on the Motorcity label. This wonderful song, the symphony of my life, was written between me and Junior Giscombe for the late great Frankie Gaye. Frankie was ill when we were supposed to record it, and he died before ever having a chance to sing it. So I got Jake to do it, and then when Pat Lewis was visiting, I explained to her how special this song was to me, and how I wanted her to create a very complicated five part harmony, just like what she arranged for Back By Popular Demand. And she certainly gave me possibly her best ever background vocals of all time. She was a maestro at Detroit backing vocals, and I love this so much. Four years ago.
