Parkhurst NuVision is the 1st LENSAR Laser Cataract Center of Excellence in the United States Gregory D. Parkhurst, M.D., FACS is a board certified and fellowship trained cornea specialist who is recognized internationally as an expert and leader in LASIK and Advanced Vision CorrectionCataract Surgery. Dr. Parkhurst trained with the first surgeon in the United States to perform LASIK, and he was recently listed as Number 8 on the Top 40 Under 40 Most Influential Ophthalmologists in the world by The Ophthalmologist, an authority on the eyecare industry out of Great Britain. Locally, Dr. Parkhurst has also been named Top Ophthalmologist in San Antonio by The Leading Physicians of the World. He was named to the Super Doctor's Rising Star List in a special insert to Texas Monthly Magazine about the Top Doctors in Texas, and was the only surgeon under the age of 35 to serve as teaching faculty for the American-European College of Ophthalmic Surgeons, an international society of surgeons recognized as experts in their field. Dr. Parkhurst has served as the Chief of Ophthalmology and Refractive Eye Surgery in the military, having helped thousands of soldiers see their best prior to deployment over seas. To date, he has performed over 13,000 successful refractive eye surgery procedures including LASIK, PRK, implantable contact lenses, and refractive lensectomies. Dr. Parkhurst is an internationally recognized subject matter expert in refractive lens implants. In 2013, Dr. Parkhurst was given the Global Young Innovative Ophthalmologist Award by STAAR Surgical. As of 2014, he is the only surgeon in Texas, and one of only 5 in all of North America to be inducted into the "Visian ICL Master's Club." According to the manufacturer, he currently stands as the most experienced Visian ICL surgeon in the state of Texas. In 2014, Dr. Parkhurst was the first surgeon in San Antonio to perform laser cataract surgery with the Advanced LensAR system. Due to his credentials and recognition as one of the international subject matter experts in laser refractive cataract surgery, the Parkhurst NuVision clinic was named The LensAR Center of Excellence for San Antonio, and the South Region. Dr. Parkhurst graduated Magna Cum Laude from an Advanced Honors Program at Hillsdale College. He then attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago before completing his surgical residency at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center. At Walter Reed, Dr. Parkhurst was selected as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Parkhurst is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His research has been presented at multiple national and international ophthalmology meetings, including the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He teaches all over the world, including such prestigious meetings as the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American-European College of Ophthalmic Surgeons, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Parkhurst remains a leader in the field of refractive eye surgery via participation in now more than 10 FDA clinical trials. In 2014, he was invited to testify in person before an advisory panel to the US FDA in Washington, which resulted in the recommendation for approval of the Toric ICL in the United States. Dr. Parkhurst has performed LASIK and other forms of vision improvement surgery on a variety of patients including A-list celebrities, professional athletes, other LASIK surgeons, his wife and his mother.
