Get ready for your first Colorado 14er with this lineup of expert Colorado 14er tips. I’ve been published widely in national outdoor publications talking about what it takes to safely experience the outdoors. After 82 summits under my belt, I want to empower you to get up your first 14er. Note that some of the imagery features helmets and axes. If you do hike a class 1 or class 2 14er during the right conditions (July, August, and September), you won’t need this equipment. ANYTHING you can get your hands on to read or consume about the route is typically helpful. Read up. Do your homework. And ask questions! The 14ers.com app and website are exceptionally helpful with planning. Next up, use weather.gov to get accurate data. Simply type the summit in the search bar and you can get very helpful hourly weather in the charts at the bottom of the results page. Climbing mountains is far more mental than physical. So train your mind as much as your body! As always, visit the mountains responsibly! Always pack out your trash including water bottles, fruit peels, toilet paper, and anything else you bring with you. Leave only footprints. Follow all closures, fire bans, drone regulations (no drones in wilderness areas), and dog rules (dogs must be leashed on all trails). There’s so much to cover that you absolutely want to check out more resources for summiting safely, including what time of year is best for hiking 14ers. There is Instagram and there is reality. And you should be inspired by BOTH. I intentionally use photos and videos that have been edited for color and lighting, and ones that haven’t. All the photos and videos you see of these incredible Colorado 14er were taken by me. I rarely edit other people out of photos (and I would make a note here if I did!). Some of the imagery was taken on 13ers looking at 14er from a distance. #mountains #coloradotravel #coloradolife #colorado14ers #14ers #mountaineering #mountainhiking #mountainhike #hikingtips #hikinglife #hikingadventures Time stamps: 00:00 - intro 00:15 - how to choose a 14er 00:41 - training for your first 14er the easy way 01:14 - Mental training tips 01:40 - Tips for summit day 01:53 - How to check the weather with a special trick 02:08 - Checking recent conditions 02:20 - Secret hack for increasing your chances of reaching the summit 02:51 - How to calculate hiking times 03:36 - getting parking and beating the crowds 04:02 - what to pack 04:17 - outtakes
