Heal Your ACL with the BEAR Implant | Miach Orthopaedics

Unlike a traditional anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), which replaces your ACL with a graft from another part of your leg or deceased donor tissue, the BEAR implant enables your ACL to heal itself, without the need for grafts. The BEAR procedure is less invasive and avoids the complications associated with ACL reconstruction such as lingering muscle weakness or kneeling pain. By preserving the original size and shape of your ACL, the BEAR Implant enables your knee joint to function more naturally. Watch this video to learn how the BEAR Implant can restore your natural ACL. 0:05 - The role of the ACL and ACL tears 0:35 - The body's healing response to injuries 0:51 - ACL injuries, ACLR and associated complications 1:26 - How the BEAR Implant heals your torn ACL 2:06 - Benefits of the BEAR Implant 2:45 - BEAR Implant rehab protocol For more information on the BEAR Implant, visit https://miachortho.com/patients-and-f... ML-1208 Rev B 03/2025 ---- The ACL, short for anterior cruciate ligament, plays a critical role in stabilizing the knee by connecting the femur, or thigh bone, to the tibia, or shin bone. ACL tears frequently happen in sports that involve sudden pivoting movements, such as skiing, soccer, and basketball. Often, a noticeable 'pop' accompanies the tear. When an injury occurs in most parts of the body, your tissue repairs itself through a series of four steps: rushing blood to the injury site to form a clot, covering the wound with cells, creating new tissue with collagen, and maturing the collagen into final tissue. When your ACL is injured, the synovial fluid in the knee joint breaks down the blood clot. Since your ACL cannot begin the healing process without a clot, surgery is typically necessary to begin the rehabilitation process. In the past this has required the use of a tissue graft harvested from your leg or a deceased donor in a procedure called ACL reconstruction. This procedure is associated with complications such as residual muscle weakness, kneeling pain, and the risk of developing osteoarthritis. Introducing the BEAR implant – a revolutionary advancement that allows your body to heal its own torn ACL. Your surgeon uses a simple procedure to stitch the ends of the torn ACL and insert the BEAR implant, which gets hydrated with your own blood. This creates an optimal healing environment that protects against the harsh synovial fluid, allowing a blood clot to form and the rest of the natural healing process to take place. Over time, The BEAR implant integrates with your own tissue and continues to strengthen, ensuring a robust and durable recovery. The BEAR implant is different. Unlike a traditional ACL reconstruction, which replaces your ACL with a graft from another part of your leg or deceased donor tissue, the BEAR implant enables your ACL to heal itself, without the need for grafts. The BEAR procedure is less invasive and avoids the complications associated with ACL reconstruction such as lingering muscle weakness or kneeling pain. By preserving the original size and shape of your ACL, the BEAR Implant enables your knee joint to function more naturally. While both procedures require a recovery period of around 9 months before you can return to sport, your rehabilitative journey with BEAR is different too. Unlike traditional ACL reconstruction, the BEAR rehab protocol is more conservative in the early stages. This approach allows your body the necessary time to heal itself, supporting the ACL's natural regrowth. It is important that you follow the carefully crafted protocol provided by your surgeon or physical therapist. By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure effective healing and long-term knee joint function. Thousands have benefitted from this innovative technology, supported by FDA approval and over 50 rigorous clinical and pre-clinical studies. Visit our website to discover how the BEAR Implant has transformed lives.
