Singh promises an NDP government would give all Canadians access to a family doctor by 2030

As the Canadian federal election campaign trail continues, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is promising to get a family doctor for every single Canadian. “It’s something that we have to do. We’re in a really dire strait right now… 6.5 million Canadians don’t have a family doctor. That’s a problem, and we have a pathway to fix that,” Singh said in St. John’s, N.L. on Saturday. By opening more residencies across Canada, Singh says an NDP government could increase the number of family doctors by 7,500 in just five years. Singh also promised a one per cent increase in Canada Health Funding transfers to provinces that align with this initiative and can guarantee citizens access to a physician.
