Aleksander Kandaurov (Russian: Александр Борисович Кандауров, born 17 January 1956, in Moscow, Soviet Union) is a Russian draughts player (Russian and Brazilian draughts) who has been the first world champion in draughts-64 (Brazilian version) in 1985, four-time champion USSR (1982, 1987, 1989, 1991) in Russian draughts. Also played in International draughts. International grandmaster (GMI) since 1986. The first steps in the draughts of Alexander Kandaurov were taken under the guidance of the Honored Coach of the USSR Nikolai Kurnosov. He won his first medal of the USSR championship in Bendery 1977 . In the future, he four times became the champion of the USSR: 1982 (Chisinau), 1987 (Samarkand), 1989 (Pinsk), 1991 (Chisinau) In 1985, in Galatine (Italy), at the first World Draughts-64 Championship, played according Brazilian rules, Kandaurov, compete there with another great Soviet player Vladimir Wigman and other rivals from the Netherlands and Brazil where he confidently won first place. Kandaurov’s best achievement in 10x10 draughts was the victory of the Polish Open in 1983. Alexander Kandaurov played a prominent role in development of draughts game. He is the owner of one of the first draughts website “draughts in Russia” (http://www.draughts.ru), also actively supports the development of draughts programs, in particular he actively participating in the organization of championships among draughts programs, and after he become a participant in the first matches in between human and such programs ( “Magistr” and “Tundra”).
