This vlog covers our family trip to Australia and New Zealand. If you’re thinking about traveling to these countries, this is a high-level breakdown of what we did to help you plan your own trip. Days 1–2: Travel days — flew from Boston to Dallas, then on to Australia (20+ hours total). Australia – Gold Coast & Brisbane Days 3–5: Arrived in Brisbane, drove to the Gold Coast. Explored Burleigh Head National Park, Tallebudgera Creek, Burleigh Heads Beach, and Surfers Paradise. Surf lessons, beach days, hikes, grocery runs, and condo dinners. Day 6: Beach stop in Coolangatta, then flew to Auckland. New Zealand – North Island Day 7: Arrived in Auckland. Explored the Waitākere Ranges, Muriwai Lookout, beach and gannet colony. Horseback riding and time at Piha Beach — plus a proposal on the Mercer Bay Loop Track. Day 8: Auckland exploration and Thanksgiving abroad. All Blacks Stadium Tour, ferry to Devonport, Mt. Victoria views. Day 9: Road trip south with stops at Karangahake Gorge and a full Hobbiton tour. Continued on to Rotorua. Day 10: Whitewater rafting on the Kaituna River, Skyline Luge, and redwood forest walks. Day 11: Scenic drive to Turangi with geothermal stops, waterfalls, and hot springs. Day 12: Early start for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing — 12.4 miles through volcanic terrain including Emerald Lakes and Mt. Doom. Day 13: Drive to Hamilton, exploring, dinner out, and a relaxed final night. Day 14: Long travel day home — about 33 hours total.
