Please join the CSIS Human Rights Initiative for the virtual launch of CSIS Senior Associate Diane Webber’s latest book, Human Rights Law and Counter Terrorism Strategies: Dead, Detained or Stateless. In her book, Dr. Webber examines trends since 9/11 in litigation arising out of public policies relating to preventive detention, targeted killings, and measures that deal with returning foreign fighters, finding that there has been tension in the legal system between the tendency to defer to the government’s counterterrorism goals and the need to protect human rights. She also discusses the lack of public awareness around these policies and makes recommendations to better align U.S. government counterterrorism policy with its international human rights obligations. Following opening remarks by Marti Flacks, Director of the CSIS Human Rights Initiative, Dr. Webber will be interviewed by David Stewart, Co-Director of the Global Law Scholars Program and Director of the Center on Transnational Business and the Law at Georgetown Law School. Questions for the virtual Q&A session following the interview can be submitted via the link above. This event is made possible through general support to CSIS. --------------------------------------------- A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world.
