Here are the facts about the potential problems with encapsulated crawlspaces: 1. Encapsulating a crawl space disrupts the natural stacking effect that the house was built with. Changing building science dynamics can create major air quality challenges. When you encapsulate a crawl space, you encapsulate all of the odors and smells inside the space 2. Construction materials such as wood members, insulation, plastic, the acidity in the soil, etc. all off gas odors, and these odors can percolate up into the living areas. 3.
