A completely new urban district is currently being built on the southern edge of the S-Bahn ring, directly at Südkreuz train station. The project bears the unofficial name "Schöneberger Lentil" - due to the shape of the site. The area for office space is still under construction, while one of the residential areas, including a daycare center, is almost complete. This tour in the borough Schöneberg begins at the new Südkreuz train station and passes by the areas mentioned. After crossing under the railroad tracks, the tour continues on the "Red Island," a neighborhood in the district so called because of its insular location between several railroad tracks and the traditionally more politically left-wing orientation of its population. You can see the striking industrial monument "Schöneberger Gasometer" on the EUREF-Campus. The campus itself unfortunately can currently only be viewed from the outside. The campus has been growing for years and since the first of April the new GASAG headquarters is ready for occupancy. The end of the tour is the Berlin-Schöneberg train station, which was built in its current form in 1932/33 and is a listed building. Like the Südkreuz station, it is a tower station with two levels, i.e. a crossing station. In this case for the S-Bahn, the fast urban train. While Südkreuz station is still new and clean, Schöneberg station is full of grafitti. More videos about new construction projects in Berlin: • [4K] Berlin Europacity #1 - Geschicht...
