The Omnipod® 5 System has three main parts: 1. the Omnipod® 5 App on either the provided Controller, or on a compatible smartphone* 2. the Omnipod 5 Pod 3. the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) System (not included) The Omnipod 5 App is used to control and monitor the Pod’s operations. After entering your prescribed initial insulin settings, you'll use the App to view your data and notifications, send insulin delivery commands and activate and deactivate your Pods. The Omnipod 5 App does not need to be near the Pod for the system to deliver your basal program in Manual Mode, nor to deliver automated basal in Automated Mode. The Omnipod 5 Pods are equipped with SmartAdjust™ technology that can receive CGM values from the Dexcom G6 and use those values to automate insulin delivery. The Pod is wearable, lightweight, holds up to 200 units of insulin, and is waterproof**. Its tubeless design allows for convenient, discreet wear on multiple locations on the body. To use the system in Automated Mode, an active Dexcom G6 CGM is needed. To learn how to use your Dexcom G6 CGM System, be sure to review training resources and options provided with your Dexcom device. Please note that the Omnipod 5 System is only compatible with the Dexcom G6 Mobile app. To connect the two systems, all you need to do is enter and save the Dexcom G6 Transmitter serial number into the Omnipod 5 App. Before placing your Dexcom G6 CGM sensor, think about where you’ll be placing your Pods. Pods can be worn up to 72 hours so you can expect a few Pod changes before you will have to change your Dexcom G6 CGM. Pod communication works best if you place the Pod in direct line of sight to your CGM. This means you should try to avoid placing the two devices on opposite sides of the body. Once you have the entire system set up, each device communicates via Bluetooth-wireless technology. The Pod and Dexcom G6 app receive CGM values and trends from the Dexcom G6 transmitter. The Omnipod 5 App receives CGM values and trends from the Pod. Therefore, there may be a delay in CGM values and a slight difference between the values shown in the Dexcom app and the Omnipod 5 App. Please note that Dexcom alerts and alarms will only come from the Dexcom G6 app. Watch the video to learn more about getting started on Omnipod 5. *For a list of compatible smartphone devices visit omnipod.com/compatibility. **The Pod has an IP28 rating for up to 25 feet for 60 minutes. The Controller is not waterproof. The Dexcom G6 sensor and transmitter are water-resistant and may be submerged under eight feet of water for up to 24 hours without failure when properly installed.
