The song "Prayer for Land" is inspired by a powerful poem written by our teacher, Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh (Thay) during his efforts to rescue Vietnamese boat people in Singapore in 1968. Thay printed and distributed this poem to the refugees, offering them a spark of hope as well as a message to authorities in the countries they may reach—pleading for compassion and the chance for a new life, rather than being turned back to the sea. Decades later, this poem’s message remains deeply relevant in light of the ongoing global crises faced by refugees and displaced people. This song is also part of our efforts to support the Love and Understanding Humanitarian Relief Program, providing food and care for children in need. How many families lie beneath the waves? Lord Jesus, do you hear the prayer of our flesh Avalokiteshvara, do you hear our voice? O humans, do you hear our cries from the abyss of death O solid shore, we long for you! We pray for mankind to be present today We pray for land to stretch its arms to us We pray that hope be given us today From this very land Take Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village teachings wherever you go with The Plum Village App: a completely free app with guided meditations, deep relaxations and other practices offered by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and his monastic community ➛ https://plumvillage.app Enjoy! 🙏 Discover more about us at https://plumvillage.org/ , dive deeper into the practice of mindfulness by practicing with us on a retreat https://plumvillage.org/retreats/ or connect with us by supporting Thich Nhat Hanh’s community and legacy at: https://plumvillage.org/donate Help us caption and translate our videos: https://plumvillage.app/subtitles/
