These chopping blocks are for roughing out a blank for spoon carving. The blocks are offcuts from an old power pole. The legs are made from an old climbing gym in my friend's back yard. and incidentally, i used the same wood for the work bench I made for her. The construction is rough but exact in the places that count which gives the finished product a special vibe. I am quite proud of the result and made two as my friend is a carving tutor and the second one will be for the student. Next week I will demonstrate using these chopping blocks and make a couple spoons. The link as promised - Is wood finish food safe? Stumpy Nubs Explains - • Is any wood finish REALLY food-safe? Is Boiled Linseed oil food safe? No, not until it cures but regardless, no one is going to eat from this surface. The amount of wet oil that got on my skin in the application would be well over a 1 million times more than touching the dried surface. And besides the actual spoon does not touch the chopping block as it is only used in the early roughing out stages. I use BLO on most of my projects and all my wooden handles and some gets on my skin. It is fine, just don't drink it kids. 😆
