Various of mourners STORYLINE More than 300-thousand Shiites on Monday continued the march onto Najaf in the funeral procession for leading cleric Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, who was killed in Friday's bombing in the holy city. The mourners followed a truck carrying the symbolic coffin of the Ayatollah, who was blown apart in the massive explosion outside the Imam Ali shrine, which claimed the lives another 124 lives. At the procession's halfway point, the second holiest Shiite city of Karbala, the procession was joined by thousands of local mourners. Others gathered at the shrine there, praying, beating drums and flagellating themselves with chains as the ayatollah's coffin neared. The three-day period of mourning began early on Sunday with services at the al-Kadhimiya shrine in Baghdad. The funeral is planned for Tuesday in Najaf, 175 kilometres (110 miles) south of Baghdad. The US-led Coalition Provisional Authority has said the Najaf governor has asked for the FBI to join Iraqi police in the investigation and that US investigators will be traveling to Najaf shortly. The CPA had taken a hands-off approach out of deference to the sacredness of the location for Shiites.
