The Serenity of the Off-Season Sri Pada Pilgrimage Through the Palabaddala Royal Path ⛰️🌄 2025/10/09 – 2025/10/10 The Sri Pada Karunawa (Sacred Footprint Blessing) journey along the Ratnapura–Palabaddala Royal Path is known as one of the most enchanting routes—where one can experience heavenly beauty on earth. These two beautiful days were filled with magical memories of a serene, otherworldly journey. The oldest and most historic path to Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) is the Ratnapura Sri Palabaddala Royal Road. It is believed that the Buddha himself ascended this very route on foot. Along this sacred path, many ancient rest halls such as Gettampana and Indikatupana still remain. There are also other historic places like Galpadi, Dharmarajagala, Andiyamalathenna, Gajamansala, and many more. The trail begins at the Palabaddala Raja Maha Viharaya (Royal Temple) and extends roughly 13 km up to the Udamaluwa (summit). The route consists of nearly 12,000 stone steps and is considered the main path of the compassionate Sri Pada pilgrimage. The path winds through a pure, pristine environment adorned with the beauty of the off-season blossoms. Along the trail lies Seethagangula, the coldest stream encountered on any Sri Pada route. The Ratnapura–Palabaddala path also features the steepest climb, leading from Palabaddala to the summit at an elevation of 2,243 m. On the way, one meets the Anathi precipice, Mahagiri Damba (the Great Rock Slope), and the chilly Sula Kapolla (Wind Gap). Additionally, this route joins with the Ratnapura–Kuruwita–Eratna path near Galwangediya, and both merge again near Mahagiri Damba.
