Thanks to my friend Jay lending me this drum, I finally got to nerd out on a 14x6.5 Bronze Phonic Snare Drum. The whole Ludwig thing still fascinates me; I haven't really messed with too many of their drums (snares OR kits). But the metal shell snare drums have always intrigued me on the different sonic characters between the alum shell / brass shell / bronze and steel shell models. All I can say is they ALL record well, and they all have an almost 'pre-EQ'd' character to them. Lovely under the mics. I recorded the drum in 3 various tunings, check it out!
