XOXOXO Isabelle Cape Town is a a coastal city in South Africa and the second largest city in the country after Johannesburg. Its also the capital of the area called western cape. Almost 4 Million people live in the greater metropolitan area of Cape Town and with those views of table mountain and lions head, amazing houses and stunning landscape I can definitely see wh y. No wonder the New York Times named Cape Town the best place in the world to visit. Cape Town is also known as the Mother City, probably because every one dreams of a mother as warm, beautiful and nice as the Cape or maybe because so many people here is so young. The 2011 national census reports that almost half (43.2%) of the Western Cape’s population is below the age of 25 – maybe the city is a fountain of youth! And one place where you will definitely find young people is here at the Waterfront. This area The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is the most-visited destination in all of South Africa - even before Table Mountain. From one coastal place to the next. Clifton beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and a place where people from all walks of life come together to play, swim or simply lay in the sun, especially on the weekends. By the way, did you know that even though Afrikaans it’s one of the youngest languages in the world it is the most spoken language in the Western Cape. Xhosa and English are the second and third language. And we have yet to find out what the penguins speak. Yes they have Welcome to Boulder Beach. Home of the penguins. African Penguins are the only penguins found on the continent. The penguins first came here in the early 80s. Back then there was plenty for them to eat and so the colony grew quickly. Unfortunately though recently due to commercial fishing, marine pollution and habitat destruction the penguins population has dramatically decreased. In 1910 only one-and-a-half million African Penguins were left and today they are classified as an endangered species. These days there are only a 26 000 breeding pairs left in the whole world! Homes were burnt down and residents lost everything they had. Government officials said that the reason for those forced removals were that they wanted to separate so-called and that the area was dangerous, full of gambling, drinking and prostitution and should therefore be cleared. These were the official reasons, however, most residents and people I spoke to believe the government took the land because of its proximity to the city centre, Table Mountain, and the harbour. Gugulethu is a township approximately 15k outside of Cape Town. It was created during apartheid. According to local officials over 700 people were murdered in Gugulethu between 2005 and 2010. "This amounts to one murder every two-and-a-half days for five consecutive years. However, just like almost anywhere there are good and bad sides. And I definitely found the sweet spot of this township. Did I ever mention that the love and respect I have for women. Black women. African women is stronger than almost any feeling I have ever experienced. Just look at them going through colonisation, racism, apartheid, rape and so much more and still taking on this world like its nothing. With a baby on their back and kilos of food on their head. This area Bo-Kaap used to also be a township now its a place that attracts millions of tourists and locals mostly because of its stunning colourful houses. Fun fact, on New Years eve this whole city is completely shut down for people to party so you all might wanna consider coming down to the cape for that.
