Hey guys, this recipe is for french onion soup, and it is SO SIMPLE, hardly any ingredients, and absolutely delicious. The thing about this recipe is that for us, it all comes down to personal taste. The measurements below are a guide, but not exact. We don't usually massively measure out everything, just taste as we go. Ingredients for Soup: 1/2 stick Butter Onions Approximately 7-8 onions (any variety works) 1.5 - 2.5 tbsp Better Than Bouillon Paste (Beef) TO TASTE Water (6-8 cups) Salt (to taste) 2-3 cloves Garlic (Optional: Garlic powder seasoning) Crusty Rustic bread of your choice Gruyere Cheese Melt butter in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onions, and cook, stirring often, until deep golden brown and caramelized, about 40 minutes. Add in Garlic, cook until fragrant. Stir in beef stock and add water (personal preference for thickness of soup) but about 6-8 cups for us. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly reduced, about 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste Preheat oven to broil Place baguette slices onto a baking sheet. Place into oven and broil until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side; set aside. Divide soup into ramekins or ovenproof bowls. Place onto a baking sheet. Top with baguette slices to cover the surface of the soup completely; sprinkle with cheese. Place into oven and broil until golden brown and cheeses have melted; about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.
