(10:42) Oil markets are sceptical Trump will stay committed to Russian sanctions (11:41) Gold prices stay down but a fall is possible (12:42) Remembering Piyush Pandey and what’s changed since his heydays? The Take: Does Piyush Pandey’s Passing Signify the End of Advertising As We Knew It: It began like any panel I’ve hosted as a financial journalist — opening remarks, sharp insights, measured points. Then Piyush Pandey stood up and changed the energy. “Lights off,” he said, and a reel rolled: Chal Meri Luna, Fevicol, and more. Fifteen minutes that showed how storytelling builds emotion, category, and brand. Pandey joined Ogilvy in 1982, rose to Executive Chairman and Global Chief Creative Officer, and turned Indian advertising into cultural storytelling. His genius lay in linking strategy, consumer insight, and heart. As Dheeraj Sinha of FCB says, “He shifted behaviour, built categories, and created emotion.” He ruled the TV and print era — when one strong message could move millions. That world has changed. Media is fragmented, real-time, and algorithm-driven. Today, creativity battles data and attention spans. Traditional ads still scale, but influencers now own distribution. The question — can brands still build loyalty like Pandey did? His passing marks a turning point: from instinct to algorithm, emotion to analytics. The next Pandey must master both. Maybe this isn’t the end of advertising — maybe it’s the rebirth of creativity in a tech-first world. Deal or No Deal? Despite optimism, India–US trade tensions persist. Over the weekend Donald Trump raised tariffs on Canadian goods after an Ontario ad sparked outrage — proof one commercial can shake diplomacy. India remains cautious. Trade Minister Piyush Goyal said India won’t rush deals even as Washington talks continue. Export sectors like apparel and gems face stress, weak orders, and job losses. On Friday, the Sensex fell 344 points to 84,211 and the Nifty slipped 96 to 25,795, snapping a six-day rally as hopes of a quick deal faded. In contrast, Wall Street hit new highs — the Dow above 47,000, with US inflation at 3%, boosting hopes the Fed stays on its rate-cut path. Russian Crude & Gold Moves: Reliance Industries may see short-term disruption replacing Russian crude under US sanctions. Analysts call the impact limited, though margins could tighten. Gold prices eased after mild US inflation data signalled possible rate cuts, ending a 10-week rally. Analysts expect more correction before stability. A New Advertising Order: India lost a creative legend. Piyush Pandey brought Hindi, humour, and heart to ads that united a nation. Today algorithms decide what we see, not emotion. As Dheeraj Sinha says, the challenge now is blending art with analytics — keeping humanity alive in a data-led media world. As one era fades, a question remains — can creativity still cut through code to move hearts and build brands? Piyush Pandey changed how India advertised, turning emotion into strategy and storytelling into brand power. As media shifts from instinct to algorithm, can creativity still move hearts?
