It is a Palladian style country house which stands in 80 acres of parkland on the edge of the small town of Musselburgh in East Lothian, Scotland. In May 1709 Sir David Dalrymple, 1st Baronet of Hailes bought the house and it was to become the home of the Dalrymple family for the next 300 years.
