Escaping the Cold | 13°F Overnight at the Cabin

Cold, Windy, and Downright Frigid… but that won’t stop us. In this week’s video, Zinger and I load up ol black dodge and head out to escape the wind and bitter cold. With overnight temps dropping into the low teens, we make our way to the family cabin for a simple, quiet, and much-needed reset. Once we arrive, it’s all about slowing down—getting a fire going in the wood stove, hauling in firewood, and warming up the cabin. Supper is as simple and comforting as it gets: leftover venison chili heated on the wood stove, paired with classic peanut butter and syrup sandwiches. Sometimes the simplest meals hit the hardest. The temperature drops to around 13°F overnight, but the wood stove keeps us warm and cozy. In the morning, we wake up to crisp winter air, fire still crackling, and brew a hot cup of coffee using the Fire Maple Crater stove system. We enjoy the warmth of the fire, step outside to explore around the cabin and cellar, play a round of fetch with Zinger, then pack up and head out. No rush. No noise.
