Maurice Ravel’s Jeux d’eau (translated as “Fountains” or “Playing Water”) is a breathtaking example of impressionist piano music — a piece that flows with dazzling arpeggios, delicate textures, and shimmering sonorities. Composed in 1901 and inspired by the movement of water, this virtuosic work was dedicated to Ravel’s teacher, Gabriel Fauré, and owes much to the influence of Liszt. It captures the image of flowing fountains and sparkling light through sound — a masterpiece of pianistic color and expression.
